AGENCY PROJECT ENGINEER/ARCHITECT II

Main Purpose of Job

This position is responsible for providing the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DHMH) and the Office of Capital Planning, Budgeting and Engineering Services (OCPBES) with expertise and assistance in the preparation of efficient and effective project scopes of work as well as monitoring and/or administration of facility infrastructure projects to their successful completion. These projects could include new construction, demolition, renovation, maintenance, energy performance or other type of projects that may affect the operations or budgeting of a facility. The occupancy types involved may include offices, health care areas, housing, educational areas or infrastructure systems such as water or electrical distribution as well as sanitary waste and storm water management. The position involves some plan review of project documents prepared by outside designers as well as developing plans and specifications for projects at DHMH facilities.

MINIMUM EDUCATION OR GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or architecture from an accredited college or university.

Experience: One year of experience as a design and project manager engineer or architect for agency capital and operating construction, maintenance and system services projects.

Notes:

1. Additional experience as an engineer or architect in the building construction field involving the design, construction or repair of building structures or system services may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Professional Engineer or Professional Architect registration in the State of Maryland or in a state with comparable requirements may be substituted for the education and experience requirements. DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

A Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering is desired. The successful applicant should have a working knowledge of building and life safety codes.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees may be required to carry an electronic paging device or provide the employing agency with a telephone number where the employee can be reached after normal business hours.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
