Main Purpose of Job

This position is to provide secretarial, clerical and telephone support for professional staff engaged in the planning and delivery of vocational and independent living services. This position also provides expert assistance to consumers while initiating and maintaining office protocols and procedures. In addition, this position will utilize information processing systems to maintain client statistical and financial records.

POSITION DUTIES

Respond to individual consumer concerns and telephone calls to include accurately recording the information provided by the consumer or caller, answering general questions about DORS; giving accurate information to the consumer or caller and maintaining proper interpersonal/telephone etiquette.  Prepare resumes and job related correspondence for consumers.

MINIMUM EDUCATION OR GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Three years performing secretarial or clerical work involving typing duties.

Notes:

1. Additional secretarial or clerical experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Thirty credit hours with a major in secretarial science or office technology from an accredited college may be substituted at the rate of thirty credits for one year of experience for up to two years of the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The preferred candidate will have knowledge of standard business English; knowledge of a variety of computer software (Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook); skill in utilizing software to create presentations and logical data tables and charts; skill in organizing and completing multiple tasks with close attention to detail; skill in interpreting and summarizing information; ability to exercise sound judgment in researching and answering inquires; ability to establish and maintain effective harmonious working relationships; and ability to communicate effectively.  The preferred candidate should also have experience working with individuals with disabilities.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Demonstrated ability to accurately type on a typewriter or keyboard on a personal computer, computer terminal or work processor at a minimum of forty words per minute may be required, depending on the specific requirements of the position.
