LOCATION OF POSITION

Positions are located throughout the State of Maryland.  The recruitment is open and continuous and never closes.  Applications are accepted continuously and one can apply at any time.  Therefore, the resulting eligible list will be used to fill current and future vacancies in work locations listed above. Main Purpose of Job

A Psychologist II is the full performance level of professional psychology staff work applying the science of psychology to the investigation, understanding and modification of human behavior and adjustment and providing psychological services such as diagnostic assessments, individual and group counseling and psychotherapy to persons considered emotionally disturbed, maladjusted, developmentally disabled or suffering from other psychological stress.   Employees in this class do not supervise other psychologists but may supervise non-licensed psychology staff or other health care staff in multi-disciplinary programs. 

POSITION DUTIES

The Department of Juvenile Services is accepting applications on an ongoing basis for the Psychologist II position.  The position is a full performance psychologist responsible for providing direct clinical services..  This position provides psychological evaluations for youth pending disposition and placements and makes appropriate recommendations and referrals for suitable assignments.  This includes administering psychological tests, interpreting the results, providing reports to the court and other agencies, and consulting with the treatment staffing team related to psychological issues.  This position will also provide licensed supervision to non-licensed psychology staff. 

MINIMUM EDUCATION OR GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Education:   Determined by the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Psychologists under the licensing requirements for Psychologists.

Experience: Two years of experience rendering psychological services or engaged in psychological research after receipt of the Psychologist license.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Clinical Psychology classifications or Psychology specialty codes in the Psychology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for this classification must be licensed as a Psychologist by the Maryland Board of Examiners of Psychologists prior to permanent appointment to a position.  Applicants who do not have a Maryland license may apply before receipt of the required license but the application will be designated in pending status by the Maryland Department of Health (MDH) Testing Unit. When the license has been obtained, submit a copy of the license to MDH to remove the pending status from the application.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties that require operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SELECTION PROCESS

Applicants who meet the Minimum Qualifications will be placed on the eligible list categorized as BEST QUALIFIED. Candidates shall be certified to the eligible list for a period of one year.   This list will be used by the DJS hiring agency to select employees.
