Main Purpose of Job

This position is the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Interpreter who is responsible for facilitating communication by interpreting from Sign to Voice and from Voice to Sign for IEP meetings on both campuses, Frederick and Columbia, for MSD faculty, staff, students, parents and outside representatives.  The incumbent will also serve as the office associate and must be willing to split their week between the two campuses.

POSITION DUTIES

The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and scheduling all IEP meetings, requesting foreign language interpreters for IEP meetings as required, requesting IEP document translations as required, completing both internal and external documents as requested, contacting meeting participants to confirm attendance, completing room reservation requests as needed, and other office work as designated to assist the IEP Coordinators.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Complete Proficiency in ASL and English.

Strong understanding of ASL and Deaf community.

Strong organizational skills.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Certified as an ASL Interpreter.

Self-motivated, trustworthy and able to keep information confidential.

Prompt and dependable.

Strong attention to accuracy and detail.

Interpersonal skills and ability to interact with colleagues and families from a variety of backgrounds.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

New hires are subject to a criminal background investigation at their own expense.  (Maryland Code, Family Law Article 1, Sections 5-560-568.)
