Introduction

The Maryland Department of Commerce is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Small Business Resources Representative within its Division of Business & Industry Sector Development’s Small Business Resources Unit.

The World Trade Center, 401 East Pratt Street, Baltimore, Maryland  21202

Main Purpose of Job

This position is primarily responsible for developing an outbound awareness and educational call program to inform and educate small businesses, early stage start-ups and entrepreneurs on the State's various small business resources; and establishing a portfolio of small businesses and start-ups clients with the goal of creating an ongoing referral "pipeline" to the Regional Growth and Retention Business Development team.

POSITION DUTIES

Individual will respond to regulatory, permitting and licensing inquiries and issues from small businesses as directed by management; assist with developing a strategic communications work plan to carry out the position’s responsibilities; represent the unit and the Department in public functions and outreach activities as directed by management; and manage the Advance MD program.   The selected employee will possess good interpersonal, written and oral communication skills necessary to work with high level public and private sector officials to maintain effective working relationships, and the ability to handle multiple, concurrent and high priority projects.  Some statewide travel is required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Marketing or a related field and

Experience: At least Six (6) years of recent professional experience in business or economic development, finance, accounting or economics, or related field. 

Equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with small businesses and start-ups and the economic, financial and marketing challenges they face is preferred.

 

Local economic and business development experience is highly desirable.

 

Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite for Windows including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint, Google Mail and/or other relevant software.
