Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to train and educate the Breastfeeding Peer Counseling staff. The incumbent will provide breastfeeding support and education to Pregnant and Breastfeeding women responsible for providing individual in-person and telephone counseling to Pregnant and Breastfeeding women. The employee will provide appropriate assessment and issuance of breast pumps according to Policy and Procedure and assistance in maintaining a breastfeeding friendly clinic. The preferred candidate should be bilingual in Spanish/English, have WIC experience, and have nutrition experience. Candidates must be licensed as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. This is a part-time contractual position which will require working up to 16 hours per week with working evening/Saturday hours as needed, and may require travel to different clinics.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in nursing, social work, psychology, education, counseling or a related field.

Note:

1. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in another field plus one year of professional experience in health services may be substituted for the specific degree.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Care Administration classifications or Civil Affairs Specialist specialty codes in the health related field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

License as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant or other certification in lactation management (e.g. CLE, CLC) is required.  A copy of your current certification must accompany your application.
