Position Title: Salary Grade 9990 (Range: $112,621.00 – $150,521.00) Effective 1/1/2014 Location: 120 East Baltimore Street, Baltimore, Maryland 21202 The Maryland State Retirement Agency is seeking an exceptional individual to serve as Managing Director in its Investment Division. This position is a management service position and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority. The Managing Director establishes strategic investment program management goals, particularly as relates to public equity, as well as standards and controls to meet objectives; Recommends and assist with determining appropriate indices and guidelines for evaluating investment performance; Provides direct leadership, oversight and management of professional investment staff, external investment managers and consultants; Ensures that the integrity of the established investment framework is maintained and that policies and procedures are followed; Identifies potential areas of risk and develops/implements corrective action; Provides guidance and recommendations for allocation of assets within the public equity area; Serves as an independent evaluator to ensure that investment concerns are appropriately monitored, evaluated, resolved and communicated; Develops and applies quantitative analytics to monitor and mitigate various types of risk associated with an investment strategy; Gathers data, analyzes results and communicates performance results; Leads the public equity team. Minimum Requirements: Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four year college in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Public Administration, or similar fields of study. Experience: Eight years of professional investment experience. The candidate should also be knowledgeable regarding best practices to promote and maintain a discrimination free work environment that is in compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations. Preferred Experience: Preferred qualifications include a candidate with a CFA and an advanced degree in Finance, Business Administration, Public Administration or similar field of study.
