NATURE OF WORK

A Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA) Executive V is a Management Service classification in the Maryland Insurance Administration.  The Maryland Insurance Administration is an independent unit of Maryland State government.  Periodically, the Administration examines all companies organized under the laws of Maryland and scrutinizes nonresident companies doing business in the State.  The Administration also investigates consumer complaints and questions concerning insurance companies operating in Maryland and resolves insurance appeals and grievances concerning coverage decisions or claims denials.  Administration staffing compensation is allocated in accordance with the Insurance Article, Title 2, Section 2-105, Maryland Insurance Administration, Annotated Code of Maryland. 

EXAMPLES OF WORK

The MIA is authorized by law to establish the compensation for its staff in accordance with Insurance Article, Title 2-105, Annotated Code of Maryland:

(b) In general. -- All employees of the Administration that serve in a management, professional, or technical capacity are in the executive service, management service, or are special appointments in the State Personnel Management System and serve at the pleasure of the Commissioner.

(c) Compensation. -- In accordance with the State budget, the Commissioner may set the compensation of an employee under subsection (b) of this section in a position that:

     (1) is unique to the Administration;

     (2) requires specific skills or experience to perform the duties of the position;

     (3) does not require the employee to perform functions that are comparable to functions performed in other units of the Executive Branch of State government.

(d) Secretary and Commissioner to determine positions for compensation. -- The Secretary, in consultation with the Commissioner, shall determine the positions for which the Commissioner may set compensation under subsection (c) of this section.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Specific educational and experience requirements are set by the agency based on the essential job functions assigned to the position.
