NATURE OF WORK

A Nursing Home Administrator II is responsible professional work in the administration of a State nursing home facility.  Employees in this classification are responsible for all the administrative, nursing and treatment operations of the facility.  Employees in this classification establish, implement and evaluate the policies and procedures of the facility, and coordinate all medical and non-medical operations within the unit, to include the development of administrative procedure for programs such as Medicare, Drug Control, Medical Records, Admission Service, and Clinic Services.  Employees in this classification are responsible for adherence to established State procedures in the use and handling of State funds and property and supervise the staff at the facility through intermediate supervisors.

Employees in this classification receive general administrative supervision from a physician or other designated official in the headquarters offices of a public health services administration.  Work is evaluated in terms of the overall operation of the facility.

Positions in this classification are evaluated by using the classification job evaluation methodology.  The use of this method involves comparing the assigned duties and responsibilities of a position to the job criteria found in the Nature of Work and Examples of Work sections of the class specification.

EXAMPLES OF WORK

Directs the clinical and business activities and programs of a State nursing home facility, including the improvement and reorganization of existing treatment program;

Prepares the annual budget request for the unit and administers the budget through the year;

Promotes the work of the unit through frequent contact with interested groups and individuals;

Review reports from nursing personnel concerning problems in nursing service;

Conducts unit staff meetings, originates plans, and recommends capital improvement programs for the unit;

Coordinates and administers unit programs and federally supported grant projects;

Performs other related duties.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

1.Specific educational and experience requirements are set by the agency based on the essential job functions assigned to the position.

2. Employees in this classification must possess a current Maryland Nursing Home Administrator license and be registered with the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators.
