JOB DESCRIPTION

The Department of Community Corrections is currently seeking qualified applicants for a full-time, temporary position as a Drug Court Probation Officer. This is a one year grant-funded position with the possibility to extend through September 30, 2011. This position will participate on the Drug Court Team and interact with team members on a routine basis. Duties include interviewing, screening, and assessing participants for program participation, as well as providing community referrals. This position will closely supervise and monitor drug court participants, testify in court, and submit written reports as requested to the court. Must possess good communication skills, a working knowledge of the criminal justice system and court procedures. Ability to read and interpret legal documents; ability to assess substance abuse problems and recommend counseling and treatment. Must be willing to supervise and work with criminal defendants, some of which have a history of violence.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Requires a Bachelor's Degree in criminal justice or closely related field with a minimum of three years related experience in the criminal justice field.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must have a valid Driver's License and either certified or ability to become certified to operate a VCIN terminal.
