The Department of Animal Care & Control is seeking applications to fill part-time, 2 year renewable substitute pool position without benefits to work at the Animal Shelter near Waterford, VA. Hirees will renew every 2 years on January 1st. Successful candidate must be outgoing, have excellent customer service skills, and be a self-starter. Duties include cleaning of cat cages and dog kennels, feeding, administering medications, socializing, and bathing animals. Other duties include keeping accurate records and participating in our outstanding adoption program. Work shift includes mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Hours vary depending on the department's need.

Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a High School diploma and one year of job-related experience. Basic knowledge of and experience with handling dogs, cats, and other companion animals required. Must possess a valid driver's license.

Must have the ability to control large and potentially dangerous animals over 100 pounds and lift animals weighing up to 75 lbs.

Successful candidate will undergo a criminal background check, physical exam, and drug screening.
