JOB DESCRIPTION

The Department of Parks, Recreation & Community Services is currently seeking qualified high school students to work and train in our Leadership Employment Advancement Program (LEAP). The LEAP Program provides students the opportunity to work in an after school licensed child care setting under close supervision. These positions will work under direct supervision of an After School Site Supervisor, learning how to provide supervision of participants according to VA state licensing, department policies and procedures. These positions will have opportunities to learn how to plan and implement age appropriate disciplinary techniques,receive leadership training and gain a working knowledge of state child care licensing standards. Assist with snack preparation and help with room set and clean up on a daily basis. Assures program supplies are clean, safe, age appropriate and properly stored. Successful candidate must have excellent communication skills.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Position requires completion of 10th grade. Must be a current student and have a general knowledge of child care practices and a willingness to learn about current licensing standards.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must obtain certification in CPR and First Aid within 30 days of hire. Must have current TB test certification. Attend 24 hours of programmatic training during the school year to enhance skills and knowledge of school aged child care and programming. Successful candidate will undergo a criminal background and child protective services background check.
