MAJOR FUNCTION
|
Performs trainee duties assisting in the collection and processing of breath samples.

MAJOR DUTIES
|
Note: The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position. Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform some or all of the activities described below.
Note: Incumbents function in a trainee capacity to gain proficiency in the duties listed below and become eligible for promotion to Alcohol Breath Analysis Technician.
- Assists in collecting breath samples from persons suspected of driving while intoxicated.
- Assists in operating video camera and recorder to film sobriety tests of persons suspected of driving while intoxicated.
- Assists in processing urine to detect the presence of controlled substances.
- Assists in recording, tabulating and filing sobriety videotapes, chemical tests for intoxication and urine samples.
- Assists in entering traffic Driving Under the Influence (DUI) citations and test results in a computer.
- Types memos, labels and reports.
- Performs other related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
|
Note: To be acquired during the training period.
- Some knowledge of the laws and regulations governing alcohol breath analysis.
- Some knowledge of the basic principals of alphabetic/numeric filing systems.
- Some knowledge of the rules governing police investigation.
- Some knowledge of the operation of computers.
- Ability to learn the principals/practices and methods used in chemical analysis.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to follow established procedures.
- Ability to work effectively with others.
- Ability to type.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
|
Note: Minimum Qualifications MUST be attained before the recruitment ending date.
Graduation from high school or possession of a GED certificate; and 20 net words per minute on a typing test.

APPOINTING AUTHORITY REQUIRES
|
Possession of a State of Florida permit to conduct chemical analysis within the probationary period.

They are required to work in their normal job duties or other activities within their skills and capabilities. Proper compensation will be made in accordance with existing rules and procedures.
EXAMINATION: Examination may be administered at the time of application, depending on qualifications. Test information is available at the Reception Branch, Hillsborough County Civil Service Office. This information must be obtained in person and it is the applicant's responsibility to obtain it, if desired.
