MAJOR FUNCTION

Performs supervisory or skilled work involving two or more trades in the construction, maintenance, and repair of buildings, equipment and facilities.

MAJOR DUTIES

NOTE: The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position. Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform some or all of the activities described below.

  • Supervises or participates in the erection of small structures and the more complex alteration, repair and maintenance of plumbing, electric, and water systems and/or fixtures, brick, cement, and carpentry work.
  • May supervise the work of skilled staff by scheduling, assigning and reviewing work, providing training and counseling and evaluating performance.
  • Makes drawings or sketches for repair work.
  • Requisitions and maintains replacement parts in central stock to permit completion of repairs.
  • Drives a vehicle to and from work site.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Considerable knowledge of procedures and techniques utilized in various construction trades.
  • Considerable knowledge of the construction and maintenance of various types of buildings and facilities.
  • Skill in the use of hand and electrical tools and equipment used in building and construction.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings.
  • Ability to prioritize work.
  • Ability to plan, organize and supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Ability to perform a variety of physical tasks.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Note: Minimum Qualifications MUST be attained before the recruitment ending date.

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate; and
Four years of experience as a skilled trades worker in two or more of the following trades: plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry, painting, or other skilled trades; and
Possession of a valid Driver License.

OR

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate; and
Two years experience as a Multi-Trades Worker II with Hillsborough County; and
Possession of a valid Driver License.

SPECIAL NOTE:  The position to be filled, as a result of this recruitment, will require working non-standard (shift) hours.

 

SPECIAL NOTE:  All selected applicants for employment at Hillsborough County Aviation Authority must successfully pass a fingerprint FBI criminal history check in accordance with Federal Aviation Regulation, Part 107.209.
