MAJOR FUNCTION

Performs duties in the installation, alteration, maintenance and repair of commercial and industrial electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures.

MAJOR DUTIES

NOTE: The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform some or all of the activities described below.

  • Installs, maintains, alters, and repairs wiring, power appliances, light machinery and electrical circuits.
  • Installs, maintains and repairs moderately complex electrical and mechanical equipment.
  • Installs electrical fixtures and appliances.
  • Locates and corrects power failures and short circuits.
  • Performs electrical work on photoelectric cells, time clocks, electrical heaters, airconditioners, motor generator sets, air compressors and traffic counters.
  • Adjusts and cleans limit switches and warning devices.
  • Makes emergency repairs to elevators, generators, and other electrical apparatus, appliances and equipment.
  • Acts as a lead worker of subordinate staff.
  • Drives a motor vehicle to and from work sites and loads and unloads tools and equipment.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Working knowledge of the principles of electricity.
  • Working knowledge of the functions and operations of commercial and industrial electrical equipment.
  • Working knowledge of safety requirements.
  • Working knowledge of National Electrical Code.
  • Working knowledge of the materials and tools used in the maintenance and repair of electrical equipment.
  • Working knowledge of electrical industry standards.
  • Working knowledge of Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
  • Skill in the use and care of electrical testing, diagnostic and repair equipment.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, on ladders, scaffolding, towers and lift buckets up to a considerable height.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to distinguish differences in wire, cable colors, sizes and types.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instruction.
  • Ability to follow established procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical diagrams.
  • Ability to operate a standard motor vehicle safely.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Note: Minimum Qualifications MUST be attained before the recruitment ending date.

Completion of the tenth grade; and
Three years of experience as an electrician; and possession of a valid Driver License.

OR

Successful completion of a program in Industrial Electricity from a Vocational/Technical school; and
One year of experience as an electrician or electrician's helper; and
Possession of a valid Driver License.
