SENIOR CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT INSPECTOR (NON-STANDARD HOURS)

MAJOR FUNCTION

Performs lead worker and administrative duties inspecting construction projects for compliance with construction plans, specifications, and building codes; and monitors course of corrective action to bring them into compliance.

Employees in this class perform duties of more than average difficulty requiring considerable initiative and independent judgment under general direction.

MAJOR DUTIES

Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform some or all of the activities described below.
  • Reviews and acts on administrative and operational problems to ensure construction projects are completed on schedule.
  • Reviews building construction plans and specifications for compliance with building codes sound construction practices.
  • Inspects the construction of buildings including the installation of gas lines, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical equipment to ensure adequacy of construction, safety, and compliance with approved plans and specifications and when applicable determines course of action to bring them into compliance.
  • Coordinates and interprets various tests to identify defects and when applicable determines course of action to bring them into compliance.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints and specifications.
  • Sketches plans, and reads and interprets blueprints and specifications.
  • Prepares written evaluation reports on inspection results.
  • Enforces compliance with plans, specifications, codes, and regulations through discussions with contractors.
  • Provides consultation to lower level inspectors on the more difficult inspections.
  • Ensures the establishment of and adherence to proper safety standards.
  • Drives to different work locations to review work progress.
  • Attends preconstruction conferences with contractors to review plans, specifications, drawings, building standards, codes, and building regulations.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Considerable knowledge of building construction, mechanical, electrical, gas and plumbing system construction and installation.
  • Considerable knowledge of building inspection methods and procedures.
  • Considerable knowledge of building construction and testing methods and techniques.
  • Considerable knowledge of building specifications, codes, rules, regulations and requirements pertaining to area(s) of responsibility.
  • Working knowledge of occupational hazards and applicable safety regulations, standards, and equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications and drawings.
  • Ability to prioritize work.
  • Ability to collect, organize and evaluate data and to develop logical conclusions.
  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to use a computer and related software.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Note: Minimum Qualifications MUST be attained before the recruitment ending date.

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED certificate; and
Three years of experience in building construction, or mechanical, electrical, plumbing or gas system installation; and
Two years experience as a construction inspector; and
Possession of a valid Driver License.

OR

A combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably expected to provide the qualifications listed above.

SPECIAL NOTE:  The position to be filled, as a result of this recruitment, will require working non-standard (shift) hours.
