Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform some or all of the activities described below. - Operates motorized equipment such as single chassis trucks, dump trucks, flatbeds, pickup trucks, fuel or oil trucks, sedans, tractors and/or utility vehicles pulling, mowing or other machinery or equipment, riding and mechanical forklifts, and other similar equipment.
- Checks and ensures that equipment is serviced and in good working condition; makes minor repairs and adjustments to equipment, and ensures that periodic maintenance and major repairs are performed.
- Performs daily safety inspections and observes proper safety practices and regulations when operating or working around equipment.
- Assists with manual work in construction, maintenance, and repair of roads, bridges, parks, drains, sewers, and other public works projects; sets flags and barricades.
- Operates air compressors and hammers, mixers, pumping equipment, and saws at construction job sites.
- Performs other related duties as required.

Internal candidates on a closed eligibility list must be considered first, prior to a selection being made from the open eligibility list.
