MAJOR FUNCTION

Performs recreational duties at a community center, park or playground.

MAJOR DUTIES

Note: The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform some or all of the activities described below.

  • Conducts and supervises recreational programs to include individual and team activities, indoor and outdoor games and special programs.
  • Trains lower level personnel in the conduct of recreational programs.
  • Teaches fair play, sportsmanship and maintains and enforces discipline and all established policies and procedures.
  • Coaches and officiates team sports.
  • Checks for safety and preventive maintenance of grounds, facilities and equipment.
  • Prepares and maintains recreational programs records and reports.
  • Administers CPR and First Aid as needed.
  • Issues recreational equipment and supplies.
  • Submits equipment requisitions.
  • Assists in the implementation of recreational programs and the coordination of social events.
  • May be required to work nonstandard duty hours.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Working knowledge of recreational programs, individual and team sports including rules, strategy and equipment use.
  • Knowledge of sports safety requirements.
  • Skill in the use of a computer and related software.
  • Ability to plan, organize and supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to deal with the public.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to operate and maintain recreational facilities and equipment.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain records and reports.
  • Ability to handle confidential information.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Note: Minimum Qualifications MUST be attained before the recruitment ending date.

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate; and
One year of experience in recreational work; and
Possession of a valid Driver License.

OR

An Associate's or higher degree from an accredited college or university; and
Possession of a valid Driver License.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION AT TIME OF APPLICATION

APPOINTING AUTHORITY REQUIRES

A background investigation upon initial hiring. Possession of a First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certifications during the initial probationary period.
