MAJOR FUNCTION

Performs supervisory and paraprofessional library duties.

MAJOR DUTIES

Note: The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform some or all of the activities described below.

  • Assists customers with informational reference and introductory reader's advisory services.
  • Instructs and assists customers in accessing library information.
  • Participates in community relations activities, programming, and community outreach, under guidance of a professional librarian.
  • Performs collection development and management activities.
  • Participates in the acquisition and cataloguing of library materials.
  • Supervises the work of subordinate personnel by scheduling, assigning and reviewing work.
  • Assumes incharge responsibilities of the function or branch, as required.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Considerable knowledge of library services, practices and techniques.
  • Considerable knowledge of the various departments and functions of a public library.
  • Working knowledge of reference sources.
  • Working knowledge of library automated systems and personal computers.
  • Ability to plan, organize and supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to use various classification and filing schemes.
  • Ability to accurately sort, file, and/or retrieve material using alphabetical, numerical and chronological systems.
  • Ability to collect, organize and evaluate data.
  • Ability to use personal computers, electronic databases, and perform basic troubleshooting.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Note: Minimum Qualifications MUST be attained before the recruitment ending date.

Graduation from an accredited four year degree granting college or university; and
Three years of clerical library experience; and
Possession of a valid Driver License.

OR

An Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university; and
Five years of clerical library experience; and
Possession of a valid Driver License.

OR

Graduation from high school or possession of GED Certificate; and
Seven years of clerical library experience; and
Possession of a valid Driver License.

    OPEN AND CLOSED RECRUITMENTS:  We are running concurrent Closed (Internal) and Open recruitments. Internal candidates on a closed eligibility list must be considered first, prior to a selection being made from the open eligibility list. To be considered for the same classification under Open recruitment, internal candidates must also apply under the open recruitment process.
