MAJOR FUNCTION

Performs entry level professional accounting duties involving the maintenance and review of accounting and fiscal records and preparation of financial statements.

MAJOR DUTIES

Note: The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform some or all of the activities described below.

  • Keeps, monitors and controls fiscal transactions related to funds management, bank account reconciliations, insurance policies, accounts receivables/payables, payroll, and similar operations to ensure that they reflect the correct financial status of the agency/department, that they follow accepted accounting principles and that they comply with statutory and regulatory provisions.
  • Audits accounts and fiscal documents for mathematical correctness and legal compliance.
  • Verifies revenues, reconciles books with bank balances, prepares bank deposits, and transfers monies between fund accounts to maintain a sound fiscal and fund management operation.
  • Reviews requisitions, obtains bids or prices by contacting suppliers or vendors, prepares purchase requests and recommends disbursement of funds to maintain inventory of supplies.
  • Monitors and controls department budget by documenting operational expenditures.
  • May supervise the work of clerical accounting staff.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of the specific accounting and reporting requirements and the complete accounting cycle of the organization to which assigned.
  • Working knowledge of budgetary procedures and controls.
  • Working knowledge of computerized accounting systems.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Ability to collect, organize and evaluate data and to develop logical conclusions.
  • Ability to plan, organize and supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to use a computer and related software.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Note: Minimum Qualifications MUST be attained before the recruitment ending date.


Graduation from an accredited four year degree granting college or university with a major in Accounting or Finance; and
A passing score on a written test.

OR

An Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Accounting; and
Two years of experience in bookkeeping or financial record-keeping; and
A passing score on a written test.

OR

Graduation from a high school or possession of a GED Certificate; and
Four years of experience in bookkeeping or financial record-keeping; and
A passing score on a written test.

Hiring Agency/Department will review Published/ Active Eligibility list.

Hiring Agency/Department personnel representative may invite candidates to interview from the associated Eligibility List for the position. Hillsborough County Departments
  
Notice:
Qualified Candidates will remain on the Eligibility List for:
(CLOSED Promotional) 60 Days OR
(OPEN Recruitment) 90 Days.

CONCLUSION
