MAJOR FUNCTION

Performs duties installing personal computers, software and associated peripheral equipment, performing routine maintenance, and training users, to support business operations. 

MAJOR DUTIES

Note: The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform some or all of the activities described below.

·         Configures and installs packaged software programs, drives and circuit boards on new and existing personal computers to support business processes.

·         Coordinates installation and installs personal computers and peripheral equipment  at selected workstations to support business operations.

·         Troubleshoots and resolves routine problems involving personal computers, software, and peripheral equipment to maintain equipment in an operational status.

·         Develops and maintains personal computer operating procedures and provides instruction on the use of newly installed personal computers and installed software.

·         Creates, maintains, and deletes files and subdirectories to insure effective use of disk storage space.

·         Performs periodic data backups and restores files to insure that files are available for use following system failures.

·         Establishes and maintains passwords to control system access levels.

·         Trains users on the use of computers, peripheral equipment and software applications to improve operational capabilities

·         Drives a vehicle to remote locations to deliver, pickup, install and/or troubleshoot equipment problems to ensure the operational readiness of equipment.

·         Maintains inventory of microcomputer equipment and software to account for all equipment.

·         Performs other related duties as required.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Working knowledge of a variety of software packages commonly used on personal computers including word processing, spreadsheet and file recovery and backup software.
  • Working knowledge of personal computers and peripheral equipment installation and routine maintenance requirements.
  • Working knowledge of the business operations of the unit to which assigned.
  • Ability to install and perform routine maintenance on computer equipment, correct configuration errors, identify, analyze and resolve customer/user problems.
  • Ability to understand, interpret and explain hardware and software application solutions to users
  • Ability to accurately document and maintain user procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to use a computer and related software.
  • Ability to train others in the use of computers and associated equipment.
  • Ability to safely operate a standard motor vehicle.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Note: Minimum Qualifications MUST be attained before the recruitment ending date.

 

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate; and
Two years of experience installing computers and peripheral equipment; and loading and configuring standard software packages.

 

OR

 

An Associate's or higher degree in computer science or programming from an accredited college or university; and

One year of experience installing computers and peripheral equipment; and loading and configuring standard software packages.

    OPEN AND CLOSED RECRUITMENTS:  We are running concurrent Closed (Internal) and Open recruitments. Internal candidates on a closed eligibility list must be considered first, prior to a selection being made from the open eligibility list.
