Summary Statement

An anticipated Family Service Assistant I vacancy will exist in Kent's Investigation unit. The incumbent assists and supports the case management function within DFS by providing direct services to clients as well as clerical assistance to the case worker. Direct client services may include: obtaining and verifying pertinent information about clients' history, prepare forms and reports necessary to provide required services for clients and maintain case records, observes records and reports accurately, and transport clients to necessary medical and court ordered appointments.

Essential Functions

  • Schedules appointments for clients and transports to required location (hospital, court, therapy session) provides coaching and assists client; provides support and encouragement to obtain desired outcome.
     
  • Provides office and telephone coverage in absence of case manager and refers problem to appropriate party.
     
  • Visits clients in a variety of environments such as home, school, observing behavior, and reporting to Case Manager.
     
  • Prepares and maintains a variety of records and forms required by case manager to provide the necessary services to the client.
     
  • Monitors behavior of child and parents on parental visits and insures safe interaction.
     
  • May interview and obtain basic information from clients such as dates of birth or social security numbers of family members.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Family Service Assistant I
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Six months experience in record keeping. 
  2. Six months experience in using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire and report on data.
  3. Six months experience in applying laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.
  4. Knowledge of health or human services support such as interviewing clients and assessing personal, health, social or financial needs in accordance with program requirements or coordinating with community resources to obtain client services.
  5. Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

Conditions of Hire

Criminal background check:  A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire.  The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check as part of the conditional offer of hire.

Pre-employment Drug Testing:  Upon a conditional offer, you must undergo pre-employment drug testing as part of the hiring process.

Union:  As a condition of accepting employment, the person selected for this position shall join and pay dues to the labor organization or may, instead not join but pay a service fee no greater than the dues.  The labor organization has been elected by employees as their representative for collective bargaining and other work related purposes.
