Summary Statement

The Law Enforcement Liaison is the Office of Highway Safety's primary contact with all Delaware law enforcement agencies and is responsible for encouraging law enforcement to participate in traffic safety programming initiatives including overtime enforcement of traffic safety laws. The position assists with the coordination and implementation of enforcement mobilization, answers questions from law enforcement, reviews and audits law enforcement participation and provides training as needed.

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class.   • Serve as liaison between the Office of Highway Safety and the Delaware law enforcement community. 
  • Assist with coordination and promotion of traffic safety programming initiatives involving the law enforcement community. 
  • Prepare project agreements and reimbursement voucher forms for law enforcement and ensure timely submission of same. 
  • Review and audit documents submitted by law enforcement for correctness, completeness and compliance with project parameters. 
  • Identify law enforcement equipment needs and monitor OHS-funded equipment. 
  • Provide training to law enforcement and guidance on effective traffic safety operations and enforcement strategies.

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Experience working as an officer within a law enforcement agency.
  2. Knowledge of current Delaware Traffic Safety Laws.
  3. Experience establishing, building and maintaining relationships within the law enforcement community.
  4. Experience handling multiple tasks and prioritizing projects.
  5. Ability to communicate effectively.  Instructor/Facilitator experience preferred.
  6. Experience utilizing Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook, and other basic computer functions.
