Summary Statement

This position is located on the main campus at New Castle County Detention Center a level 5 secure facility. The incumbent provides instructional planning, monitoring and support of educational needs of the student from the intake process through the transition of the student back to the public school setting.

Essential Functions

To perform this job successfully, the incumbent must be able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities in a satisfactory manner. Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position. 

  • Plans, develops and implements instructional activities and modifies lessons as required
  • Planning and facilitating revision meetings, annual IEP’s, initial IEP’s and transition meetings for enrolled student
  • Observes and assesses student academic  progress and behavior
  • Ensures coordination with parents, caretakers, sending and receiving schools
  • Writes and distributes appropriate reports and educational plans keeping accurate data of needed progress
  • Provides educational assessments, collects relevant data from school history and other relevant records
  • Facilitates all testing at various levels including State Assessments, SAT and GED testing
  • Oversee the EPT process and maintain detailed knowledge of clinical matters
  • Attends student centered meetings and advocates meeting student academic  needs
  • Participates with colleagues in developing curricular and attends needed conferences, training or class work  to maintain licensure

  1. Must hold current State of Delaware (or be eligible for) teaching license.
  2. Must be certified or certifiable in special education.

License,Registrations and Certifications

 License, Registrations and Certifications Applicant will submit the following at time of interview:

  1. Copy of (unofficial) transcripts.
  2. Copy of Professional Status Certification and License.
  3. Documentation of Praxis-I and/or Core Academic Skills

Conditions of Hire

Criminal background check: A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire.  The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check as part of the conditional offer of hire.
