Summary Statement

The position of Dental Director serves as the director of Division of Public Health's statewide oral health program.  It requires a DDS/DMD degree as well as the possession of a Master's degree in Public Health (MPH), or a minimum of 5 years experience of public health/population based/dental systems experience. The Dental Director will be asked to develop and implement statewide oral health policy, assess oral health needs and promote community based dentistry.

Essential Functions

  • Apply public health principles and practices.
  • Address population-based oral health issues.
  • Implement priorities based on the core functions of public health.
  • Utilize experience and expertise with administrative, management, and budget development.
  • Oversee the application and implementation of grants and contracts.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal and written communication and organizational skills.
  • Interact with representatives of the private, public, and legislative arenas to foster a positive oral health climate.
  • Oversee the Delaware Public Health dental clinics.

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Dental Director

  1. Possession of or eligible for a Delaware dental license. Must obtain license within two years of hiring.
  2. Completion of a DDS/DMD degree and possession of a Masters degree in Public Health (MPH), OR a minimum of five years of public health/population-based/dental systems experience.
  3. Delaware and Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registrations.
  4. Medicare and Medicaid provider numbers.
