Summary Statement

The position is responsible for supporting programming functions within Delaware State Parks.  This position will also support interpretive programming with school groups and the public at sites across the state and support marketing and coordination of key park events.  Coordination of statewide programs such as Great Parks Pursuit, Trail Challenge, First Day Hikes, Capital Campout, and developing new programs will be required. This position will be responsible for supporting programs and initiatives that will increase the public’s awareness of their surrounding environment and foster the appreciation, enjoyment and utilization of Delaware State Parks.

Essential Functions

  • Coordinate statewide interpretive initiatives.
  • Deliver interpretive programs to participants of all ages in a variety of contexts
  • Distribute interpretive publications.
  • Develop marketing techniques and practices, including social media.
  • Support development of interpretative exhibits, publications, marketing materials
  • Evaluates needs and collects estimates for project materials and services.
  • Analyze and organize data.
  • Create systems for the tracking and streamlining projects.
  • Must be able to demonstrate responsibility, dependability and good communication skills.

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Seasonal Interpretive Specialist

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas.

  1. Six months experience planning and delivering interpretive programs for adults and children.
  2. Six months experience coordinating and promoting special events or initiatives.
  3. One year experience in interpreting rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  4. One year experience using Microsoft Office Programs including Outlook, Excel, and Publisher.
  5. Possession of a valid driver's license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

Conditions of Hire

Criminal background check:  A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire.  The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check as part of the conditional offer of hire.
