Summary Statement

The class incumbent assists the Director with the oversight of special projects and support in overall administration of the Division.

Essential Functions

  • Reviews correspondence and reports; determines level of authority to handle the complaint or issue; oversees tracking, reporting and review of data relating to violations and complaints; ensures intervention to correct problems and keeps the superior appropriately briefed.
     
  • Oversees constituent relations including resolving crisis situations in service delivery referred by the Governor's Office, legislators, other agencies and the public; ensures that constituent contacts are handled quickly and responsively.
     
  • Develops agenda and programs for Division management team meetings, conferences and retreats.
     
  • Participates in the development of divisional policies and procedures for both operational and administrative activities.
     
  • Provides input on the development of staff training.
     
  • Meets with public or private sector officials to facilitate and improve the delivery of employment and training services.
     
  • Interprets federal and state laws, regulations and program guidelines to operations staff, representatives from service agencies and the public.
     
  • Works with community leaders, educational officials, public agencies and employer groups to facilitate understanding of the services offered and to obtain ideas improving the delivery of services. 
     
  • Participates in the development of management tools to ensure effective unit operation.
     
  • Works on special projects as assigned.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Deputy Principal Assistant

  1. One year experience in health, human services or workforce program administration such as overseeing and directing the development, implementation and evaluation of programs and services; planning and establishing short and long range program goals and objectives.  Providing advice to other agency organizational units through consultation.
     
  2. One year experience in strategic planning such as planning and mapping a path between the present and future usually for three to five years by determining key objectives, how to accomplish the key objectives, what strategies should be used, what activities would contribute in accomplishing the key objectives and developing performance measures to gauge and report progress or success.
     
  3. One year experience in developing policies and procedures.
     
  4. One year experience in operations management which includes planning, directing, coordinating, controlling and evaluating operations.
