Automotive Body Mechanic II

Incumbents perform at a skilled level, inspection, maintenance and repair work to damaged automotive equipment such as automobiles, tractors, trucks and other light and heavy ground maintenance and construction equipment.

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class. Since class specifications are descriptive and not restrictive, incumbents can complete job duties of similar kind not specifically listed here.

• Inspects vehicles to evaluate the extent of the damage and estimate cost of repairs.
   
• Decides if damaged area should be repaired or replaced.
   
• Repairs damaged areas by sanding, body filling, welding, taping and spray painting.
   
• Procures and installs parts where damaged area can't be repaired.
   
• Repairs or replaces door panels, glass, upholstery and other components.
   
• Applies prime and finished coats of paint to assure blending and match of the original paint.
   
• Keeps records and prepares written work orders, requisitions and reports.

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Automotive Body Mechanic II
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

1. Six months experience in auto body repairing and painting.

As a condition of hire you must possess a valid CDL Class A or B drivers license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving) OR obtain one during the initial 90-day probationary period.

Pre-employment Drug Testing:  Upon a conditional offer, you must undergo pre-employment drug testing as part of the hiring process.

DelDOT Medical Exam:  Applicants who meet the job requirements for the position, and who are made a conditional offer of employment, shall be required to meet the physical qualifications and examination requirements of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations to hold a commercial driver’s license unless they are approved for either an Intra-State CDL Waiver of a Federal Waiver or Exemption.  In addition, applicants must not have incurred four or more serious traffic violations during the previous three years as defined by the Federal Motor Carrier Code.  The Department of Transportation will obtain driving record information maintained by the Division of Motor Vehicles for the preceding three year period.

Union:  As a condition of accepting employment, the person selected for this position shall join and pay dues to the labor organization or may, instead not join but pay a service fee no greater than the dues.  The labor organization has been elected by employees as their representative for collective bargaining and other work related purposes.
