Summary Statement

The incumbent in this position will assist the Center Director in overseeing daily center operations. Responsibilities include providing direct care services, quality programming and support for individuals who attend the center; coordinating transportation services; acting as a lead worker; mentoring direct support staff.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining a wide range of alternative day programs which focus on individualized social, personal, pre-vocational and vocational activities.
     
  • Orients and trains new staff, provides training to center staff in the methods and techniques of dealing with and caring for clients. Participates in ongoing staff development activities.
     
  • Adjusts staff schedules to provide for special coverage when necessary.
     
  • Coordinates transportation of clients to and from the center; reports vehicle problems and may arrange for back-up vehicles. Makes emergency arrangements for vehicle and clients due to breakdowns or accidents and assesses special needs and limitations of clients as related to transportation.
     
  • Plans routine and special events which include the development and supervision of decentralized community based program components, and assuring the safety and cleanliness of the center environment.
     
  • Conducts client evaluations and assessments to determine proper program placements; directs and guides staff in the implementation of goal attainment/service and behavior management plans.
     
  • Participates in various meetings regarding the operation of programs.
     
  • Prepares and oversees the preparation of various records and reports.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Developmental Disabilities Center Assistant Director
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Six months experience in working with persons with developmental disabilities.
  2. Six months experience in instructing and assisting clients in developing functional, social, recreational and vocational skills.
  3. Six months experience in applying laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.
  4. Six months experience in narrative report writing.

Conditions of Hire

Pre-employment Drug Testing:  Upon a conditional offer, you must undergo pre-employment drug testing as part of the hiring process.

Criminal background check:  A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire.  The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check as part of the conditional offer of hire.

 As a condition of hire you must possess a valid driver's license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
