Summary Statement

Principal responsibilities include the planning, requirements, design, coding, testing, debugging, system integration, and documenting of components of complex, multi-tier government systems.  

Responsible for evaluating user requests for new programs, modifications to existing programs, and system integration of off the shelf Products.  Programs can be defined as Data models, reports, or data integration applications.  Performs research and gathers relevant data to determine feasibility, appropriateness, and cost and time required.  Prepares detailed estimates in order to obtain approval to proceed.  Prepares detailed program specifications. 

Analyzes, designs and implements accurate, secure, efficient, logical and physical data bases and coordinates database development applying knowledge of database design standards and database management system. Identifies and resolves production and/or applications development problems related to the use of the database and/or reporting design. Reviews project request describing database user needs and determines if project requires creating series of new programs or modifying existing programs that access data stored in databases. Determines and enters changes to data dictionary descriptions, including type, structure, and intended use of data within system. Maintains data integrity by working to eliminate redundancy.

Creates description to enable programmer analysts to understand how programs should access data. Writes description of how user accesses data, referred to as logical database. Writes physical database description, such as location, space requirements, and access method, to protect company data resources against unauthorized access and accidental destruction, according to computer industry standards and knowledge of database management system. Creates system and user documentation.  Monitors ongoing program and system performance.  Provides training and mentors less experienced team members.  Data Modeler should be capable of working on large number of projects simultaneously.

  • Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree in an I/T discipline or equivalent work experience
  • Training in project management principles and practices
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in data management concepts, practices and procedures
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in data technologies with at least 2+ years in data modeling, data integration and reporting

Conditions of Hire
