Summary Statement

The seasonal Program Leader position is responsible for developing and conducting interpretive programs that will increase the public’s awareness of their surrounding environment and foster the appreciation, enjoyment and utilization of Delaware State Parks.  Work is performed indoors and outdoors under various weather conditions.  Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings and holidays as scheduled.

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all position in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class.   • Lead school environmental education or historical education programs to increase awareness of the environment.
  • Develop and maintain exhibits, park bulletin boards and educational material.
  • Provide general customer service and park information to visitors.
  • Plans, organizes and conducts interpretive walks and tours.
  • May include live animal care and handling.
  • Must be dependable and have good communication skills.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and have fun.

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Seasonal Historical Interpreter

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas.

  1. Six months experience working with children and young adults such as babysitting, academic/athletic tutoring, camp counselor, youth volunteer, classroom assistant or education teacher.
  2. Knowledge of natural, cultural, historical resources or parks and recreation.
  3. Possession of a valid driver's license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

Conditions of Hire

Selection Process
