Summary Statement

These two positions involve assisting Trail crew with maintaining existing trails and installation of new trails in New Castle County and in Sussex County.  Job duties will include cutting of trees, repairing bridges, operation and maintenance of vehicles and maintaining resources for safe public use and enjoyment.  This position is statewide and may travel to a different Park site each day.  Applicants must be available to work weekends and holidays as scheduled.

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all position in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class.   • Performs maintenance on trails, bridges and related areas using carpentry, painting and construction skills.
  • Keeping the work area clear of debris, cleaning up limbs and branches as they are brought down in tree cutting work. Raking the area clear to maintain the safety zone.
  • Performs maintenance and repairs on equipment/vehicles.
  • Operation of construction and/or outdoor equipment and use of hand and power tools.
  • Ensures the safe usage of state owned, managed and/or maintained grounds and facilities by the public.
  • Completes standard forms/applications; maintains records and reports detailing daily activity, tool and equipment inventory, and fuel and service logs.
  • Must be able to demonstrate responsibility, dependability and good communication skills.

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Trail Groundsman

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Six months experience in operating and maintaining construction equipment, chainsaws and power tools.
  2. Knowledge of natural resources.
  3. Must be at least 18 years of age.
  4. Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

Additional Posting Information

This position will have Statewide responsibilities which requires travel throughout the State.  The State of Delaware provides transportation services to State agencies.
