Summary Statement

Incumbents in this class plan, direct, coordinate and supervise all road, bridge and building maintenance operations in an assigned district of the Division of Highways.

  • Supervises Maintenance Area Supervisor I's and II's.

Essential Functions

  • Plans, schedules, directs and monitors road, bridge and emergency operations of district-wide and area forces.
     
  • Shifts personnel and equipment between areas and district-wide crews.
     
  • Evaluates completed work for technical acceptability, productivity and unit-cost standards and makes recommendations to improve services and reduce costs.
     
  • Ensures personnel are given necessary training for establishing staffing patterns and provide the best cost-benefit ratios in future years.
     
  • Resolves public complaints about highway maintenance operations.
     
  • Reviews and recommends action on personnel problems.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for District Maintenance Superintendent
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Three years experience in highway construction/maintenance operations.
  2. Three years experience in estimating highway construction/maintenance costs.
  3. Three years experience in interpreting highway construction/maintenance laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
  4. Six months experience in operations management which includes planning, directing, coordinating, controlling and evaluating operations typically through subordinate supervisors.

Additional Posting Information

As a condition of hire the successful applicant must be able to report to their duty station within one half hour to provide timely response to vehicle or operational emergencies.
