Summary Statement

This is the supervisory level responsible for participating in and supervising staff performing vehicle testing and inspection or driver licensing.

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class.   • Administers and scores vision, road, oral and written tests for a variety of licenses such as commercial driver license, automobile, school bus, motorcycle and conditional. Operates various equipment for testing license applicants, issuing photo licenses, processing/issuing driver's licenses and collecting fees.
     
  • Reviews/verifies documents and state and national motor vehicle records to determine valid issuing of licenses or passing of vehicles; provides information to law enforcement agencies on stolen vehicles and falsified documents.
     
  • Inspects vehicle equipment such as lights, horns, windshield wipers, turn signals, brakes, emissions and exhaust systems for automobiles, buses, trucks and motorcycles. Inspects mobile homes and other vehicles off-site, as required, for verification or assignment of vehicle identification number.
     
  • Operates manual and computerized vehicle testing equipment.
     
  • Interprets and explains various phases of inspection or licensing processes, laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures to the public.
     
  • Deals courteously with the public in stressful situations when explaining ineligibility.
     
  • Prepares a variety of records and reports.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Motor Vehicle Services Supervisor
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Three years experience in customer service such as providing prompt, accurate, and courteous service to customers, seeking information, answering requests as quickly as possible, ensuring customers are satisfied with service, and responding to complaints.
  2. Six months experience in document processing and control which includes reviewing and evaluating records for completeness and conformity with laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures and ensures quality assurance of results.
  3. Six months experience in interpreting motor vehicle laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.
  4. Six months experience in using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire and report on data.
  5. Knowledge of staff supervision of two or more employees which includes to plan, assign, review, discipline, recommend hire, promotion, termination and administer performance plans and reviews.
  6. Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
  7. Six months experience in operating, calibrating and maintaining equipment used in vehicle inspections.

 Pre-employment Drug Testing:  Upon a conditional offer, you must undergo pre-employment drug testing as part of the hiring process.

Criminal background check:  A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire.  The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check as part of the conditional offer of hire.
