Laboratory Maintenance Technician

Summary Statement

This position will provide general maintenance and mechanical support to forensic laboratories and all special units at the Division of Forensic Sciences.  The technician will have hands-on responsibility for safe and efficient maintenance of the facility and general laboratory equipment, will be able to troubleshoot and resolve problems, as well as provide assistance with special projects.

Essential Functions

  • Work with facilities management to facilitate, repair or replace faulty building systems. 
  • Inspect and diagnose general maintenance problems and determine the best way to correct them.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance to ensure that equipment in the building continues to run smoothly.
  • Assemble, set up or relocate machinery, equipment or office furniture, lifting and/or moving 25+ lbs.
  • Provide general upkeep of buildings and properties and keep detailed records of their work.

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Laboratory Maintenance Technician

  1. Possession of a high school diploma.
  2. Six months experience repairing mechanical equipment in a science, hospital or laboratory setting.
  3. Six months experience repairing gas tanks/lines, including troubleshooting and fixing leaks.
  4. Ability to troubleshoot, repair or work on misc. lab equipment such as, but not limited to:  hinges, latches, refrigerators, freezers, vortexers, multi-vortexers, stirred/hotplates,     nitrogen evaporators, heat blocks, PH meters, centrifuges, uninterruptable power supplies, distilled water and purification systems, positive pressure manifolds, resistivity     monitors, air purifiers, hydrogen generators, nitrogen generators, air compressors, chemical fume hoods, roller rockers, Thermomixers, incubators, autoclaves, balances,     UV Crosslinkers, LPS power supplies, Thermo Cyclers, temperature verification probes, ice makers, digital vortex mixers, spin plate spinners, and ovens.

Conditions of Hire

Criminal background check:  A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire.  The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check as part of the conditional offer of hire.
