Summary Statement

Delaware Psychiatric Center (DPC) Nursing department and reports to the Chief Executive Officer of the hospital.  DPC is looking for a high energy nurse executive that knows how to solve problems and lead the nursing department to higher performance.  The incumbent must have the ability to communicate in various ways with staff and teach nursing standards.  DPC is converting from long term care to acute care so the ability to effectively lead culture change is needed.  As DPC downsizes, the DON will need to be able to adjust staffing levels to match the size and acuity of each unit.

Essential Functions

  • Supervision responsibilities include planning, assigning, reviewing and evaluating performance, training and recommending hire, termination and discipline.
  • Supervision also includes responsibility for providing documentation to support recommended corrective and disciplinary actions, signing performance plans and appraisals and resolving informal grievances.
  • Assesses the needs of the Nursing Department and makes recommendations to administration. Reviews and approves all nursing policies and procedures.
  • Directs all nursing programs and services.  
  • Provides input to office and special program budgets and oversees all expenditures for activities, resources and supplies.
  • Prepares and analyzes cost reports and other statistical data.

Job Requirements

  1. At least seven years experience as a Registered Nurse in Psychiatric Nursing. Possession of a current Delaware Registered Nurse license OR multi-state compact license at time of hire, or within two months of hire date.
  2. Possession of a Master’s Degree in Nursing, or other healthcare-related sciences such as MSW, LMHC, MHA, MPA, MPH.
  3. Experience in senior nursing administrative/operations management. RN clinical experience and administrative experience can be concurrent.   4. Demonstrated understanding of the fundamental principles underlying a strengths-based, person-centered, trauma-informed and recovery-oriented system of care.  Please include a description of your experience with these principles, including job title, employer and dates (month/year) of employment.
  5. Successful experience with federal hospital regulatory agencies such as CMS and the Joint Commission and a thorough knowledge of Performance Improvement. Conditions of Hire

Criminal background check:  A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire.  The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check as part of the conditional offer of hire.
