Summary Statement

This position performs biological monitoring, management, research and reporting information related to beach nesting bird management.  Responsible for activities such as data entry (GIS, Excel and Access) and report writing. Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings and holidays as scheduled under difficult field and weather conditions (biting insects, hot and cold conditions, and long hours).

Essential Functions

  • Provides technical support in studies, surveys and research projects. 
  • Survey and monitor beach nesting bird populations.
  • Erect fencing and enclosures to protect breeding birds.
  • Work cooperatively with other seasonals, volunteers and Division of Parks and Recreation staff.
  • Provides technical information and assistance to the public. 
  • Maintains accurate records and prepares reports. 
  • Must be able to demonstrate responsibility, dependability and good communication skills.
  • Assist with other tasks as needed.

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following area:

  1. Must be at least 18 years of age.
  2. Knowledge of conducting field work to collect samples and survey data.
  3. Knowledge of using a Geographic Information System (GIS).
  4. Knowledge of avian field monitoring.
  5. Knowledge of narrative report writing.
  6. Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

Conditions of Hire
