Summary Statement

This position will travel statewide to deliver education programs to YCC members weekly. Educator is a leadership position delivering core environmental education curriculum to all YCC members. This position is statewide and will travel to a different site each day to deliver weekly environmental education and awareness presentations and activities. Duties will include design of a curriculum and weekly reporting of outcomes. Educator will coordinate educational programs and presentations with YCC Program Manager and work alongside the other YCC team leaders to ensure a comprehensive educational experience for all members.

The mission of the Delaware State Parks YCC is to engage youth in important conservation and park projects while providing learning that fosters teamwork, self-esteem, social responsibility and respect for the environment. YCC Core components include:

Essential Functions

  • Develop and implement education curriculum for the YCC members in accordance with the National YCC Curriculum.
  • Interact with program participants, answering questions, assisting with activities, and ensuring participation opportunity for all members.
  • Gather materials, set up, and clean-up for weekly program.
  • Complete weekly program reports providing measurable outcomes and observations.
  • Assist in operation of YCC program – may include transporting members to site, assisting in All Corps Days, and serving as extra leadership for field teams.
  • Must be able to demonstrate responsibility, dependability and good communication skills.
  • Other tasks as assigned and agreed upon.

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Seasonal Youth Conservation Corp (YCC) Environmental Educator

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following area:

  1. Six months experience working with young adults tutoring, camp counselor, youth volunteer, classroom assistant or education teacher.
  2. Knowledge of natural, cultural, historical resources or parks and recreation.
  3. Knowledge of public speaking or interpretation.
  4. Possession of a valid driver’s license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

Conditions of Hire

Criminal background check:  A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire.  The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check as part of the conditional offer of hire.
