Summary Statement

The mission of the Delaware State Parks Conservation Corps is to engage youth in important conservation and park projects while providing learning that fosters teamwork, self-esteem, social responsibility and respect for the environment. DSPCC Core components include: Practical job work experience; Environmental education and experiences; and Job and/or college preparation.  Delaware State Parks Conservation Corps- Green Corps has two summer youth employment positions:  One in New Castle County (Bellevue State Park) and one in Sussex County (Trap Pond State Park). Both positions are casual/seasonal positions working 29.75 hours per week June 1 – August 28, 2015. Team Leaders lead a team of Corps members conducting conservation and trail projects throughout state parks within the team’s region.  Team Leaders will coordinate activities with DSPCC Program Leader and work alongside professional staff of Conservation Technicians, Field Biologists and Environmental Stewardship team members.

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all position in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class.   • Provides daily supervision and guidance to team of 5 Green Corps members aged 16-21 years.
  • Coordinates work and educational activities.
  • Completes necessary reports and administrative forms.
  • Transports team to work locations.
  • Assists with land management plan to maintain the park’s natural areas, trails, meadows and shoreline.
  • Assists with native and invasive plant survey and identification.
  • Conducts invasive control by mechanical removal and, as possible, chemical application of invasive plants.
  • Trail Maintenance and possible trail reconstruction/constructions projects.
  • Litter cleanup and waterway and shoreline cleanup.
  • Assists Conservation Technicians with grounds work throughout the park.
  • Other occasional projects may include: Historic building maintenance/preservation, assists other resource management projects (including wildlife management, and environmental education), water quality monitoring, special events set up, logistics, station assistance, and tear down.
  • Other duties as assigned
