Summary Statement

The seasonal Day Camp Counselor position is responsible for organizing and supervising camp activities and ensuring campers’ well-being.  Duties may vary for each facility.  Work is performed under various weather conditions.  Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings and holidays as scheduled.

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class.   • Oversee the day-to-day activities of campers.
  • Lead daily summer camper activities, such as teaching, crafts, games, etc.
  • Plan and prepare camp activities and manage camp registrations.
  • Enforce camp rules and know where campers are at all times.
  • Set a good example for all campers in all areas, including cleanliness, punctuality, rules and sportsmanship.
  • Provide general customer service and park information to visitors.
  • Must be dependable and have good communication skills.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and have fun.

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Seasonal Naturalist (Day Camp Counselor)

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Experience working with children and young adults such as babysitting, academic/athletic tutoring, camp counselor, youth volunteer, classroom assistant or education teacher.
  2. Knowledge of various recreational activities such as hiking, mountain biking, boating or swimming.

Conditions of Hire

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  DNREC does not provide sponsorship for holders of H-1 B Visas.

Criminal background check:  A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire.  The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check as part of the conditional offer of hire.

Selection Process
