Summary Statement

The seasonal Camp Director Position is responsible for planning and coordinating activities for summer camps.  Duties include assisting in creating and maintaining a fun, positive and safe camp environment for campers and staff.  Duties may vary for each facility.  Work is performed under various weather conditions.  Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings and holidays as scheduled.

Essential Functions

  • Plan and lead daily activities for summer camps.
  • Lead outdoor sport activities such as tubing, canoeing, fishing, and mountain biking.
  • Develop new games and activities.
  • Ensure a fun, educational and safe environment for children.
  • Supervise and mentor summer camp team.
  • Work dependably and have good communication skills.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and have fun.

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Seasonal Naturalists (Camp Director)

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas.

  1. At least 21 years of age.
  2. Possession of a valid driver’s license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
  3. Two years experience with a camp program for children or young adults.
  4. One year experience in supervising groups, staff or volunteers.
  5. Experience working with children and young adults such as babysitting, academic/athletic tutoring, camp counselor, youth volunteer, classroom assistant or education teacher.
  6. Knowledge of various recreational activities such as hiking, mountain biking, boating or swimming.

Conditions of Hire

Criminal background check:  A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire.  The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check as part of the conditional offer of hire.
