Summary Statement

A class incumbent is responsible for supervising the social services department at a small to medium size state institution.

  • Supervises 2-5 professional and 1-3 paraprofessional and/or clerical employees.

Selective Requirement

Selective Requirements must be met in addition to the job requirements.  Applicants who do not possess the selective requirement will not be qualified.

1.  Possession of a Bachelors degree or higher in human services such as Social Work, Sociology, Rehabilitation Counseling, Psychology or related field

2.  One year supervised social work experience working directly with individuals in a health care facility.

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class.  Since class specifications are descriptive and not restrictive, incumbents can complete job duties of similar kind not specifically listed here.

  • Plans and directs the activities of a social services department.
     
  • Plans, assigns reviews and evaluates the work of staff.
     
  • Provide direct case management services to clients including developing treatment plans, counseling, referrals and assessments.
     
  • Oversees the activities of a volunteer program by reviewing and approving new/revised programs.
     
  • Serves on various committees and task forces studying issues pertinent to long term care facilities.
     
  • Prepares program status reports, case management report, statistical reports on population and other special reports as requested.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Hospital Social Services Administrator I
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Three years experience in case management which includes assessing, planning, developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating options and services to meet an individuals human service needs.
  2. Three years experience in making recommendations as part of a clients service plan such as clinical treatment, counseling, or determining eligibility for health or human services/benefits.
  3. Six months experience in interpreting laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
  4. Six months experience in narrative report writing.
  5. Six months experience in staff supervision which includes planning, assigning, reviewing, and evaluating the work of others.

Conditions of Hire

Criminal background check:  A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire.  The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check as part of the conditional offer of hire.

Pre-employment Drug Testing:  Upon a conditional offer, you must undergo pre-employment drug testing as part of the hiring process.
