Summary Statement

An incumbent in this class is responsible for supervising the social services department at a large state institution.

Nature and Scope

The class incumbent reports to the Hospital Director. The incumbent is responsible for supervising the institution's social services program by overseeing the provision of social services to residents.  Work includes coordinating services with other institutional departments and other social service agencies and ensuring regulatory, programmatic, policy and procedural compliance. As the coordinator of case management functions, the incumbent participates in the development of an interdisciplinary approach to patient care. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for administering the information, referral, application and centralized intake processes for the three residential facilities under the Long Term Care Section. The incumbent is also responsible for overseeing and coordinating a program to measure quality of services provided such as user satisfaction surveys.  The incumbent also participates on various committees and task forces studying such issues as training needs, contingency planning and building improvement.

  • Supervises the institution's social service department by planning, assigning reviewing and evaluating the work of staff.  Coordinates case management function in the development of an interdisciplinary approach to client care.
     
  • Administers the centralized intake, information, referral and application processes for the three long term care facilities.
     
  • Participates on various committees and task forces studying the quality of services provided to facility residents by developing and analyzing user satisfaction surveys and prepares special reports as assigned.
     
  • Acts as advocate for residents and their families.
     
  • Represents the social service department to community representatives, other service agencies, general public and clients and their families by responding to requests for information and speaking before groups on social service program matters.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Hospital Social Services Administrator II
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Three years experience in health or human services work such as applying theories, principles, laws and practices of health or human services programs and services that assist with and improve life for individuals, families, or communities such as financial support, employment, unemployment, housing, health care, disease prevention, substance abuse, child protective services, physical/mental health treatment and prevention or rehabilitation.
  2. Six months experience in health or human services program administration such as overseeing and directing the development, implementation and evaluation of health or human services programs and services; planning and establishing short and long range program goals and objectives. Providing advice to other agency organizational units through consultation.
  3. Six months experience in developing policies or procedures.
  4. Six months experience in narrative report writing.
  5. Six months experience in staff supervision which includes planning, assigning, reviewing, and evaluating the work of others.
