THIS IS A NEW CONTINUOUS EXAMINATION.  The eligible list resulting from this examination will cancel any existing list and may last approximately one year but can be extended.  This examination may be reopened as necessary and the names of additional candidates merged onto the existing list according to examination score.  APPLY IMMEDIATELY AS THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE AT ANY TIME.

 Supplemental Questionnaire: A properly completed Supplemental Questionnaire must be submitted with each application. Applications will only be accepted on-line. Failure to submit a complete Application and Supplemental Questionnaire will result in disqualification.

DESCRIPTION

THE AGENCY

The mission of the Registrar of Voters (ROV) is to encourage all eligible residents to exercise their right to vote, conduct elections in a fair, accurate, and efficient manner that inspires public confidence in the County elections process, maintain a continuous professional level of service to the public, and develop new techniques to improve outreach services that acknowledge the diversity of Alameda County.

All services provided by the ROV are mandated by the California Elections Code, the California Government Code, and the California Constitution. These mandated services include voter registration, voter outreach, candidate services, elections services, and vote by mail. Additional information on these mandated services is in the Major Service Areas section of this chapter.

The current vacancy is located with the Registrar of Voters Office.  However, the eligible list created as a result of this recruitment maybe be used to fill the current vacancy of others that may arise during the duration of this list.

 THE POSITION

Under general supervision, to perform a variety of clerical tasks: to assist regular full-time clerical personnel during election process. Assignments will vary and will require the skill sets noted below based on assignment placement.

• Customer service, general clerical skills- for positions requiring the skill in typing or data entry at a speed of 40 words per minute.

• Proficient in MS Excel, MS Power Point, MS Word, Office 365 and Windows 10.

• Attention to detail for numerical filing.

• Read, write, and speak fluently in English.

• Ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.

• Ability to sit and stand for long periods.

• Telemarketing experience.

• Manual labor involved for Warehouse work- must be able to lift 30-70 pounds.

• Must have strong and excellent customer service skills

• Ability to handle a high volume of incoming phone calls.

• Flexibility in work schedule- able to work overtime on weeknights, weekends and holidays (if needed).

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:

The equivalent of six months’ full-time experience in clerical work.

License:

Some positions in this class require possession of a Valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's license.

NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

The most suitably qualified candidates will possess the following competencies:

Knowledge of:

• Basic elements of good English usage, alphabetizing, spelling and arithmetic.

Ability to:

• Perform general clerical work and learn specific operations, procedures and equipment of the office.
• Spell and use English correctly.
• Make arithmetical computations.
• Understand and follow oral and written directions.
• Establish and maintain cooperative relations with the public.
• File alphanumerically, chronologically and by address.

Selection Certification Criteria:

A. For positions requiring the skill in typing or data entry at a speed of not less than 40 words per minute from clear copy. Typing or data entry occupies more than l0% of working time.

B. For positions requiring lifting and moving heavy objects of 50-l00 lbs. in a warehouse setting and picking up and delivering supplies to various locations in the County.

EXAMINATION COMPONENTS

THE EXAMINATION WILL CONSIST OF the following steps: 1) A review of candidates' applications to verify possession of minimum requirements. Those candidates who possess the minimum requirements for the class will move on to the next step in the examination process. 2) A written exam which is pass or fail, and those who pass will move on to the next step of process. 3) A typing test at 40 net words per minute.4) An oral interview which will be weighted as 100% of the candidate's final examination score. The oral interview may contain situational exercises.  CANDIDATES MUST ATTAIN A QUALIFYING RATING ON EACH PORTION OF THIS EXAMINATION.  We reserve the right to make changes to the announced examination components.
