Alameda County's Temporary Assignment Pool (TAP) Unit and the County Administrator’s Office Risk Management Unit are seeking a temporary Active for Life (AFL) Fitness Trainer/Health Educator for the Employee Wellness Program.  Applications will only be accepted on-line. About the Alameda County Risk Management Unit 

The Risk Management Unit  (RMU) is a division of the County Administrator's Office. RMU is responsible for providing comprehensive, pro-active services that promote the health, wellness and safety of County of Alameda employees and the public; reduce the County's loss exposures; and minimize the total cost of risk to the County.

RMU's mission is carried out through the delivery of administrative support, and program management services covering the following programs:

  • Employee Wellness  
  • Employee Safety  including ergonomics, workplace violence prevention, disaster preparedness, site inspections, safety consulting, and training;
  • Employee Assistance (EAP) Employment and pre-employment health programs including pre-employment exams, periodic exams, DOT testing, and fit for duty testing
  • Workers’ Compensation 
  • Third Party Liability claims  including general liability, auto liability, employment practices, and medical malpractice programs
  • Employee Claims  for loss or damage to vehicles and other personal property
  • Insurance Programs  covering County property, errors and omissions, special event insurance for activities in County buildings, and specialized departmental programs
  • Contract Insurance Reviews 
  • Risk assessment and consulting, including contract insurance reviews, certificates of insurance, assessment of risk exposures associated with new County programs or projects
  • Contractor Bonding Assistance Program 

RMU is responsible for the protection and preservation of County assets, both human and physical. This is accomplished by identifying, evaluating, and controlling loss exposures associated with County operations

DESCRIPTION

 

   

Alameda County's Temporary Assignment Pool (TAP) Unit and the County Administrator’s Office Risk Management Unit are seeking a temporary Fitness Trainer/ Health Educator for the Employee Wellness Program Active for Life (AFL) campaign.  AFL is Alameda County’s annual  12-week fitness and nutrition initiative designed to help County employees improve their health and well-being.

 

  • The Active for Life Fitness Trainer/Health Educator will assist in implementing Active for Life Program components and events at worksites throughout the County. Duties will include, but may not be limited to: 
  • Leading group fitness demonstrations at AFL Kick-offs and Finales
  • Producing a biweekly newsletter in Microsoft Publisher highlighting team activities and including a calendar of local fitness events    
  • Supporting department team captains in using the online activity tracking system
  • Conducting stretch sessions at brown bag presentations and meetings   
  • Leading fitness walks   
  • Conducting motivational group coaching sessions 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

In order to be considered for this position, applicants must possess the following:

  • 4-year bachelor degree in health education or related field
  • Current National Fitness Certification (i.e.: ACE, AFAA, NETA, ACSM, etc.)
  • CPR Certification
  • Strong communication and motivational skills a must 
  • Valid CDL    

Wellness coaching certificate and experience is preferred

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Knowledge of: 

• Modern office practices and procedures.

• Basic office automation and computer functions.

• Basic elements of correct English usage, grammar, spelling and punctuation.

• Proficient in MS Office and use of office equipment; Typing required.

 

Ability to:  

• Interpret and apply rules and regulations.

• Follow written and oral instructions.

• Establish and maintain effective relationships with co-workers and the public.

• Communicate effectively orally and in writing.

• Organize and prioritize.
