THIS IS A NEW ASSEMBLED EXAMINATION. The eligible list resulting from this examination will cancel any existing list and may last approximately one year, but can be extended. SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONNAIRE:  A properly completed Supplemental Questionnaire must be submitted with each application.  Applications and Supplemental Questionnaires must be in the possession of the Human Resource Services Department by 5:00 p.m. on the Last Day for Filing. DESCRIPTION

   

THE POSITION

Under the direction of the Deputy Director, the Infrastructure Services Manager directs the activities of journey level technical analysts and specialists in the areas of networks, servers and office systems support, with oversight in the design, implementation and maintenance of production systems. Areas of responsibility can include networking technologies, server and data systems, web technologies, supervision of personnel, projects and system maintenance as required; preparation of estimates of fiscal year budgetary requirements; and other related work as required.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications stated below, the ideal candidate will possess the following critical attributes which include:

·         Exceptional oral and written communication skills with the ability to clearly convey information and ideas with technical and non-technical staff and customers.

·         Strategic problem solving, with the ability to recognize and understand issues, problems and opportunities and determine appropriate course of action.  Proven planning and organization skills with the ability to prioritize, determine needed tasks and resources, and stay on schedule.

·         Ability to design, implement and manage ongoing projects.

·         Ability to collaborate and forge effective relationships with internal and external customers, departments, and agencies to facilitate and accomplish work goals. 

·         Excellent project management skills; ability to plan, coordinate, direct and manage complex projects through subordinate supervisors and staff.

·         Sound decision maker with the ability and experience to identify and understand complex issues, problems, concepts and opportunities, apply logical thinking and exercise good judgement.

·         Exceptional customer service skills, ensuring that customer service (both internal and external) is a driving force behind decisions and interactions.

·         Strong leadership aptitude with the ability to manage, inspire, and facilitate goal accomplishment.

·         Technologically savvy team member with knowledge of the following; Windows-based architecture, server hardware platforms, network and systems management tools and technologies, wireless technologies, web internet/intranet environments, UNIX technologies and Office system client technologies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Either I

The equivalent of two years of full-time experience in the class of Infrastructure Services Engineer or an equivalent higher level class in the Alameda County classified service supervising technical staff. (Non-classified includes District Attorney’s Office, Hospital Authority, and Consolidated Courts.)

Or II

The equivalent of four years of full-time increasingly responsible infrastructure experience such as security, design and implementation of enterprise network and/or servers, documentation planning and project management in network, server and/or desktop technologies, including three years of direct supervision and workload management of senior systems analysts and engineers. (Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of experience.)

NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

NOTE: The level and scope of the following knowledge and abilities are related to duties listed under the “Examples of Duties” section of this specification.

• Principles and techniques of project planning, scheduling and control as applied to systems development and maintenance in a large information technology installation.
• Knowledge of the principles and techniques of supervision, personnel development, administration and resource management.

EXAMINATION COMPONENTS

THE EXAMINATION
The examination will consist of the following steps:

1.) A review of candidates' application to verify possession of minimum requirements.  Those candidates who possess the minimum requirements for the class will move on to the next step in the examination process.
2.) A review of the supplemental questionnaire to identify the best qualified candidates. Those candidates who have been identified as best qualified will move on to the next step in the examination process.
3.) An oral interview which will be weighted as 100% of the candidates' final examination score.  The oral interview may contain situational exercises.

Candidates must attain a qualifying rating on each portion of this recruitment.
