THIS IS A NEW PROMOTIONAL ASSEMBLED EXAMINATION. The eligible list resulting from this examination will cancel any existing list and may last approximately one year but can be extended. Qualified applicants must be current county employees and have completed the equivalent of six months of continuous service following a regular appointment in the Alameda County classified service (non-classified includes the District Attorney’s Office, the Medical Center, and the Superior Court) by Monday, August 29, 2016. A regular appointment does not include provisional, TAP (Temporary Assignment Pool), or STEP-UP appointments.

THE AGENCY
Alameda County's General Services Agency delivers a host of support services to County departments and agencies. These services fall into several major categories: Technical — architectural, engineering, energy and hazardous materials management; Building Maintenance — building maintenance and repairs, janitorial services and minor remodeling and alterations; Construction — new facilities and major remodeling; Procurement — purchasing and contract administration; Fleet Services; Childcare Planning; Human Resources, Payroll, Information Systems and Parking Administration.
THE POSITION
Procurement and Contracts Supervisors work in the Procurement Department of the General Services Agency and report to the Manager, Purchasing Division. Positions allocated to this class will have supervisory responsibility over positions in the classes of Procurement and Contracts Specialists and Assistants, including responsibility for hiring, training, performance evaluations, discipline and grievance resolution. Incumbents have the responsibility for supervising the administration of the County's contracts. Procurement and Contracts Supervisors differ from the Procurement and Contracts Specialists II classification because of the Procurement and Contracts Supervisor’s supervisory responsibility. This class is distinguished from the next higher class of Manager, Purchasing Division in that the latter class is responsible for directing and supervising through subordinates the work of the entire purchasing division. The Manager, Purchasing Division also assists in the budget preparation for the department.
