Supply Clerk II

Introduction

This is a new, assembled examination. The eligible list resulting from this examination will cancel any existing list and may be valid for approximately one year, but can be extended.

Applications must be in the possession of the Human Resource Services Department by 5:00 p.m. on the Last Day for Filing (Tuesday, October 6, 2015). Applications will only be accepted online.

Supplemental Questionnaire: A properly completed Supplemental Questionnaire must be submitted with each application. Applications and Supplemental Questionnaires must be in the possession of the Human Resource Services Department by 5:00 p.m. on the Last Day for Filing (Tuesday, October 6, 2015). Failure to submit the Application and Supplemental Questionnaire will result in disqualification.

VACANCIES

There are currently vacancies in the Probation Department, the Social Services Agency and the General Services Agency. This recruitment may also be used to establish an eligible list for other Supply Clerk II vacancies throughout Alameda County.

 

DESCRIPTION

THE POSITION

Under general supervision, orders, issues, delivers, receives and warehouses supplies and equipment; maintains manual and computerized inventory records regarding minimum stock levels and rates of usage; moves furniture, office supplies and equipment within or between a County agency or department. May operate a variety of stock or warehouse moving equipment or be responsible for an Agency Copy Center; performs other related duties as required.

The class of Supply Clerk II is the advance journey-level class and positions allocated at this level are assigned supply functions for a majority of the work that fall within at least one of the following criteria:

1. Interdepartmental or county-wide receiving, storing and distributing supply duties and responsibilities.

2. Working in a storeroom/stockroom, office or warehouse environment: Loading and unloading whole truck loads of goods; redistributing existing large inventories within warehouses; issuing and wrapping bulk items for deliveries.

3. Supply duties and responsibilities that are assigned for a specialized inventory, such as personal computer/automation equipment, office furniture, supplies, food, including food service supplies, vaccines, court exhibits, blank county warrants, which require incumbents to exercise judgment and discrimination significantly beyond those required of Supply Clerks I in the proper receipt, storage, security or issuance of goods.

4. In an agency/department, assigned overall technical supply responsibility for inventory control of capital equipment and minor repairs of equipment or acts as lead worker over 2 or more FTE supply personnel.

This class is distinguished from the next higher one of Storekeeper I in that while the Supply Clerk II may have lead responsibility, the Storekeeper I class is considered the first full supervisory level in the storekeeping series.

 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications listed below, the ideal candidate will have demonstrated a successful track record of:

• Proven experience in a warehouse environment utilizing hand tools, power tools, dollies, hand trucks, baler, compactors and forklifts. In addition, demonstrated expertise in moving, assembling and disassembling modular cubicles and work stations is highly desired.
• The ability to learn new tasks and work techniques and the ability to immediately apply these newly learned practices to daily tasks.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to assist staff and external customers with information pertaining to equipment needs, repairs, pick up of materials and distribution of supplies.
• The ability to accurately complete work and tasks while paying close attention to all details.
• The ability to work effectively with team members and establish good working relationships with personnel within other county departments to ensure that tasks are completed in a timely manner.
• The ability to provide superior customer service demonstrated by anticipating the customer’s needs and providing accurate information and services.
• Flexible individual who quickly adapts to changes in work environment and work assignments and effectively works through obstacles and challenges.
• The ability to resolve work issues in a calm manner while paying close attention to established work deadlines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Either I

The equivalent of one year of full-time experience in the class of Supply Clerk I or an equivalent or higher level class in the Alameda County classified service. (Non-classified includes District Attorney’s Office, Hospital Authority, and the Consolidated Courts.)

Or II

The equivalent of one year full-time experience in receiving, storing, and issuing of supplies, or in clerical work involving stock or equipment inventory control or fiscal recordkeeping.

License:

Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s license.

NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

The most suitably qualified candidates will possess the following competencies:

• Handling and manipulating heavy/bulky objects up to 75 lbs.
• Moving furniture, office equipment and other heavy objects.
• Interacting courteously with co-workers and the public.
• Keeping complex and detailed records.
• Working independently with minimal supervision.
• Making decisions using good judgment.
• Assigning training, monitoring and reviewing work when in lead capacity.
• Operating a variety of stock or warehouse moving equipment when part of assignment.
• Driving a motor vehicle.
• Operating, assembling and maintaining mechanical equipment.

EXAMINATION COMPONENTS

THE EXAMINATION WILL CONSIST OF the following steps:

1) A review of candidates' applications and supplemental questionnaires to verify possession of the minimum qualifications by Tuesday, October 20, 2015.

2) All candidates meeting the minimum qualifications will be invited to take a written exam the week of November 16th. The written exam will be marked pass/fail.

3) Candidates who pass the written exam will be invited to participate in an oral examination the week of December 14, 2015, which will be weighted as 100% of the candidate's final examination score. The oral interview may contain situational exercises.
