Supply Clerk I

Introduction

This is a new, assembled examination. The eligible list resulting from this examination will cancel any existing list and may be valid for approximately one year, but can be extended.

Applications must be in the possession of the Human Resource Services Department by 5:00 p.m. on the Last Day for Filing (Tuesday, September 22, 2015). Applications will only be accepted online.

Supplemental Questionnaire: A properly completed Supplemental Questionnaire must be submitted with each application. Applications and Supplemental Questionnaires must be in the possession of the Human Resource Services Department by 5:00 p.m. on the Last Day for Filing (Tuesday, September 22, 2015). Failure to submit the Application and Supplemental Questionnaire will result in disqualification.

VACANCIES

There are currently vacancies in the Probation Department and the Social Services Agency.  This recruitment may also be used to establish an eligible list for other Supply Clerk I vacancies throughout Alameda County.

 

DESCRIPTION

THE POSITION

Under close supervision, orders, issues, delivers, receives and warehouses supplies and equipment; maintains manual and computerized inventory records regarding minimum stock levels and rates of usage; moves furniture, office supplies and equipment within a County agency or department; and performs other related duties as required.

 

IDEAL CANDIDATE

In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications listed below, the ideal candidate will have demonstrated a successful track record of having:

• Extensive experience with independent responsibility for the coordination of receiving and delivery of supplies and equipment for a large facility supporting a multi-location office environment.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to assist staff and external customers with information pertaining to equipment needs, repairs and supplies.
• Demonstrated ability to work with effectively with team members and establish good working relationships with personnel within other County departments to ensure that work tasks are completed.
• Ability to accurately complete work and tasks while paying close attention to all details.
• Providing superior customer service demonstrated by anticipating customer’s needs and providing accurate information and services.
• Effective decision making with outstanding organizational skills and prioritization of tasks effectively and determining the best methods to complete assigned tasks.
• Collecting and gathering information to ensure accuracy for supplies and orders.
• Adhering to established safety expectations and guidelines.
• Proven experience with various equipment, such as forklifts, dollies, mail carts and cargo vehicles and trucks.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Possession of the knowledge, abilities and license as listed below:

License:

Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s license.

NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

The most suitably qualified candidates will possess the following competencies:

• Managing stock/commodities levels consistent with usage.
• Techniques of receiving, storing and issuing supplies, furniture and equipment stock.
• Workplace safety techniques.
• Basic automation/computer-input functions.

Abilities:

• Computing mathematical problems.
• Understanding and following written and oral instructions.
• Handling and manipulating heavy/bulky objects up to 75 lbs.
• Interacting courteously with co-workers and the public, vendors and delivery persons.
• Keeping neat and accurate records.
• Working under general supervision.
• Making decisions using good judgment.
• Driving a motor vehicle.
• Operating, assembling and maintaining mechanical equipment.
• Moving furniture, office equipment and other heavy objects.

EXAMINATION COMPONENTS

THE EXAMINATION WILL CONSIST OF the following steps:

1) A review of candidates' applications and supplemental questionnaires to verify possession of the minimum qualifications by Tuesday, October 6, 2015.

2) All candidates meeting the minimum qualifications will be invited to take a written exam the week of October 26th.  The written exam will be marked pass/fail.

3) Candidates who pass the written exam will be invited to participate in an oral examination the week of November 16, 2015, which will be weighted as 100% of the candidate's final examination score. The oral interview may contain situational exercises.

CANDIDATES MUST ATTAIN A QUALIFYING RATING ON EACH PORTION OF THIS EXAMINATION.
