THIS IS A NEW PROMOTIONAL ASSEMBLED EXAMINATIONThe eligible list resulting from this examination will cancel any existing list and may last approximately one year but can be extended. Qualified applicants must be current county employees and have completed the equivalent of six months of continuous service following a regular appointment in the Alameda County classified service (non-classified includes the District Attorney’s Office, the Medical Center, and the Superior Court) by August 21, 2015.  A regular appointment does not include provisional, TAP (Temporary Assignment Pool), or STEP-UP appointments.

DESCRIPTION

THE POSITION

The Supervising Clerk III plans, assigns, evaluates and supervises the work and operations of a clerical staff consisting of at least twenty or more full time subordinate employees; provides training and instructions and makes decisions on difficult or sensitive clerical problems; accomplishes all related procedural and clerical duties and responsibilities through subordinate employees; and performs related duties as required. Positions are vacant throughout the County.

• Proficient in Microsoft Suite, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook and inter/intranet
• Good independent judgment and problem solving skills and abilities

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Either I

The equivalent of two years of full-time experience in the class of Supervising Clerk I in the Alameda County service; or one year of experience in the class of Supervising Clerk II or in an equivalent or higher level clerical supervisory class in the Alameda County classified service. (Non-classified includes District Attorney’s Office, Hospital Authority, and the Consolidated Courts.)

Completion of the Alameda County Management Academy “Management & Supervision Certificate Program” may substitute for six (6) months of the required qualifying experience.

Or II

The equivalent of two years of full-time clerical experience in a supervisory capacity in a position equivalent to the County's class of Supervising Clerk II.

NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination.

Alternate Range Criteria

Supervisors of clerical units who supervise at least one Supervising Clerk II receiving the alternate range, shall be entitled to additional compensation.

NOTE: In positions where such persons meet the "alternate range" criteria as defined in the class specification, additional compensation may be provided for, pursuant to provisions of the Alameda County Salary Ordinance.

EXAMINATION COMPONENTS

THE EXAMINATION WILL CONSIST OF the following steps: 1) A review of candidates' applications to verify possession of minimum requirements. Those candidates who possess the minimum requirements for the class will move on to the next step in the examination process. 2) A review of candidates’ Supplemental Questionnaires to select the best qualified applicants to continue in the process. 3) An oral interview which will be weighted as 100% of the candidate's final examination score. The oral interview may contain situational exercises. CANDIDATES MUST ATTAIN A QUALIFYING RATING ON EACH PORTION OF THIS EXAMINATION. We reserve the right to make changes to the announced examination components.
